Vote Yes on May 2!

Why increase the Sinking Fund from 1mill to 2.5 mills for 10 years?

Local dollars mean local control.  During hard economic times AAPS used funds to preserve classrooms and programs, delaying property and building improvements.  Now we have to catch up!

A VOTE YES Invests in our Future
AAPS consists of 32 schools – with an average age of over 60 years.  Just like homeowners need to maintain their roof, plumbing, HVAC, the yard and more, districts must keep their facilities working for children.

A VOTE YES Prepares For Growth
AAPS projects 1,000 additional students in the next 7 years from new housing developments in the AAPS attendance area.  Strategic expansion will be crucial at some elementary schools, starting with temporary classrooms.

A VOTE YES Boosts Learning
We must make ongoing improvements to all our classrooms, playgrounds, performance and athletic spaces not only for our kids but also the community that uses them.

What difference does 2.5 mills make?  For those with the median home value of $280,000 that’s about $4 more per week.  For our kids, it delivers the quality schools our kids deserve.

Please Support the Senior Bon Voyage Celebration!

Dear Pioneer Parents,

Thank you to everyone who has already generously supported our Senior Bon Voyage party! Almost 25 years ago our community was rocked by the tragic death of a Pioneer senior on graduation night. Since then, the Annual Pioneer Bon Voyage party has provided a safe graduation celebration option and protected our community from another tragic, and avoidable loss. Every year over 75% of Pioneer graduates attend the all-night, drug and alcohol free celebration.

We both believe strongly in the value of this party and have donated to support it. Will you join us in ensuring that our youth continue to be safe on graduation night? The Bon Voyage party is only possible because of the collective efforts of parents and the community, and there are two ways that you can help:

  • Make a tax-deductible cash donation to support the event
  • Donate a raffle prize or prizes (suggested items include: gift cards for movies, restaurants, college dorm room necessities, gas, clothes, etc.)

Your cash or raffle donation now will save lives and ensure this tradition continues. You can mail or drop off raffle prizes and/or checks payable to: ASAN (All Senior All Night) in the PHS office.

Closer to the party there will also be opportunities to volunteer your time.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Anne Steinhauer, acws1012@hotmail.com, 734-476-6499.

Sincerely,

Anne Steinhauer, Bon Voyage Chair and Helen Starman, PHS parent

Did You Know?

stay informed

In an effort to keep parents informed of what’s going on at Pioneer, the announcements that are read to students during the school day are emailed out to parents and guardians once a week (usually on Thursday) through School Messenger.

These messages come from Deborah Anglin, who is Mr. Lowder’s secretary, and the subject line reads Pioneer High SchoolMessenger.  These announcements include information about upcoming events, deadlines and events for seniors, AP testing, outside opportunities for students, tutoring and academic assistance, and special announcements for parents and guardians. Students often report that it is difficult to hear the announcements when they are read during the school day, so having them in your email inbox can be helpful to them as well as to you.

This email may not arrive in your primary inbox, so be sure to look for them and change settings to make sure you receive them. There is no way to unsubscribe from this email, but it is easily deleted if you are not interested in the information.

Are You Enrolled in the Grocery Programs? Sign Up Now!

The Pioneer PTSO Grocery Store Program provides a significant funding source for the Senior Bon Voyage Graduation Party that we sponsor every spring.

Senior Bon Voyage Party Needs to Fill Leadership Roles

gradLooking for an opportunity to contribute your time and talents to Pioneer? Why not help out with the Senior Bon Voyage party? This fun annual event sends our seniors off with an all-night party full of surprises. For this event to continue, we need new leadership. We are looking to fill the following positions for THIS YEAR:

  • Chairperson-elect: Shadow this year’s chair to take over for the 2017 party.
  • Check-In Chair: Recruit and manage volunteers checking in students the night of the party.
  • Fundraiser Chair: We are hoping to keep costs down for students by having fundraisers throughout the year. This is a new position.
  • Treasurer: Pay vendors and manage finances for the party. Starts ASAP.

If you are interested in taking on one of these roles, or just want more information, contact party chair Lori O’Neil at lboneil@sbcglobal.net.
